Mr. Patrick D. Chisanga, Director of Rotary International responsible for Zone 22 (Africa) and Zone 21 (part of Eastern Europe & Middle East) paid a courtesy call on Mr. Rockson Dogbegah the Chair of African Corporate Governance Network (ACGN) in Accra on Wednesday the 23rd November, 2022.
The working visit which took place in the office of Mr. Dogbegah sought to among others, discuss strategic collaboration between the two institutions.
The discussions centered on membership growth of the two Institutions on the African continent and the promotion of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles in Africa.
Time management and Punctuality was also discussed for promotion on the African continent to ensure efficiency and productivity in business operations.
Rotary is a global network of one million four hundred (1.4 million) business and community leaders, who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe and within communities. It has a current membership of forty thousand (40,000) in Africa.
Mr. Patrick Chisanga wishes to grow Rotary membership in Africa to fifty thousand (50,000) by the end of his tenure in 2024.
The mission of Rotary is to provide service, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through fellowship of businesses, professionals, and community leaders to see the world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe and in communities.
The African Corporate Governance Network (ACGN) is a collaborative network of director membership organizations that promotes effective corporate governance on the African continent. The ACGN has twenty- one (21) members from twenty (20) African countries representing over twenty thousand, five hundred (20,500) senior executives and directors across the continent.9. The mission of ACGN is to develop the institutional capacity of its members to enhance effective corporate governance practices towards building better private and public sector organizations and corporate citizens in Africa.
The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that establishes an understanding and a cooperative working relationship that seeks to assist and promote mutual institutional interests in ways that are consistent with the mandates, policies, priorities and resources of each party.
A concept note is to be developed within six (6) weeks from the date of signing to operationalize the content of the MoU.
Mr. Patrick D. Chisanga is also the Chair of the ACGN Steering Committee Expansion Project to establish Corporate Governance Institutions in countries that have none across Africa. He was recently recognized at the maiden ACGN Excellence Awards as the 2022 ACGN Corporate Governance Personality of Zambia.
Mr. Dogbegah is leading major reforms in ACGN including the establishment of Corporate Governance Institutions on the African Continent. Under his leadership, the Liberia Corporate Governance Association was formed in February this year.
Other initiatives under his leadership include the establishment of the Directors’ Week Conference and Excellence Awards which maiden edition was held on Thursday 17th November, 2022.
Mr. Dogbegah is also promoting the standardization of director training with cross border utilization of directors and the promotion of Environment, Social Governance (ESG) on the African Continent.
The District Secretary of Rotary International; District 9102, Ms. Rosemary Puni and the Assistant Governor of the same district Mr. Festus Amoyaw were present at the signing ceremony being part of Mr. Chisanga’s entourage.
